Stamp Duty & Registration

• Stamp duty must be paid as per The Maharashtra STAMP ACT (Bombay Act LX of 1958).
• Stamp duty is the evidence that a property has been bought either in the buyer's or seller's name and is valid for 6 months. It is levied on all property transactions that are legal. There are a number of documents which require stamp duty.
• The total Stamp Duty to be borne by the homebuyer in the metro city of Maharashtra has been raised to six per cent and additional Rs. 30,000/- as registration charges. In April 2018 (Stamp duty Percentage varies in various cities as per Local Municipal Limits)
• The fee for property registration is payable over and above the stamp duty. The registration fee is applicable in case of properties that cost over Rs. 30,000. This fee is usually calculated at 1% of the agreement value or the market value, whichever is lower.
